Chris McLaurin

Christopher McLaurin is currently on a year leave of absence as Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Oklahoma State University and currently Percussionist with the New World Symphony in Miami, FL. He has also served as Principal Percussionist with the Napa Valley Symphony in Napa, CA, and percussionist with the Oklahoma City Symphony,Oakland Symphony, Honolulu Symphony, Juilliard Orchestra, Berkeley Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic, and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir among others. His music festival credits include touring Europe and Asia as with the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, being a member of the National Repertory Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center and the Round Top Festival.

Mr. McLaurin regularly performs solo recitals and has performed concertos with the National Repertory Orchestra, Ohlone Symphony and the San Jose State Symphony where he won the concerto competition.
He is an experienced chamber musician and as well, having performed with The New Juilliard Ensemble, FOCUS! Festival of New Music, New World Symphony Percussion Consort, Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music, SHMF’s Teatime Concerts at Salzau Castle and in recital with solo cellist Emil Miland in San Francisco’s Old First Concert series.

Mr. McLaurin holds a Graduate Diploma from the Juilliard School where he held the C. & H. Lewine and Jean Kaufman Scholarships. He also holds a Bachelors of Music Degree in Percussion Performance from the California State University where he was a Michael LaPorta Memorial Percussion Scholarship and Zildjian Percussion Scholarship recipient. Additionally, he studied at Cleveland State University in the orchestral studies program.

His teachers include Tom Freer of the Cleveland Orchestra, Greg Zuber of Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, James Lee Wyatt III, David Herbert, Jack Van Geem, and Anthony J. Cirone of the San Francisco Symphony. He is an endorser of Encore Mallets, Inc.
